In the summer of 2019 I visited Bologna with my boyfriend for five of the most enjoyable and ragu-filled days. It's not hard for me to fall totally in love with a country that values food and drink so deeply, and I quickly picked up the very Italian habit of sitting in a cafe to enjoy a coffee, instead of rushing with it in-hand and drinking it too quickly/spilling it down my hand.

I chatted with mishmash a while ago about the basket of crisps that appears with your aperitif, magically and without needing to ask. Aperitivo for me harks back to the most sunny, idealised, familiar and friendly memories of Bologna, drinking many Americanos (the cocktail, not the coffee) paired with salty crunchy crisps while you wait to go to dinner. There's not a better simple pleasure if you ask me.

You can buy a print of Aperitivo here.
